Grinder Operator

**About The Role** Our Company is seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Grinder Operator to join our precision manufacturing team. This role is critical to producing high-quality components that meet stringent specifications. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating, setting up, and maintaining various grinding machines to achieve precise dimensions and surface finishes, contributing directly to our commitment to excellence and innovation. **Key Responsibilities** * Set up and operate various grinding machines, including surface, cylindrical, and centerless grinders, to produce parts according to specifications. * Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine grinding procedures, dimensions, and tolerances. * Select and mount appropriate grinding wheels, dressing tools, and fixtures. * Monitor machine operations, making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance and product quality. * Perform in-process and final inspections of ground parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and optical comparators. * Identify and troubleshoot machine malfunctions or quality issues, performing minor adjustments or escalating as required. * Maintain accurate production records, quality logs, and other required documentation. * Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, machine operating procedures, and quality standards. * Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication to ensure longevity and operational efficiency. * Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and quality control personnel to optimize production processes. **Requirements** * Demonstrated experience operating precision grinding machinery in a manufacturing environment. * Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). * Expertise in using a wide range of precision measuring instruments. * Strong understanding of grinding principles, abrasive materials, and machine mechanics. * Ability to perform complex setups and adjustments with minimal supervision. * Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, defect-free parts. * Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot operational issues. * Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and perform repetitive tasks. * Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to all safety regulations. **Required Education** * High School Diploma or GED is required. * A vocational certificate or technical degree in Machining Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field is highly preferred. **Skills Required** * **Grinding Machine Operation:** Surface Grinders, Cylindrical Grinders, Centerless Grinders, Tool & Cutter Grinders. * **Precision Measurement:** Micrometers, Calipers, Depth Gauges, Bore Gauges, Optical Comparators, Height Gauges. * **Technical Interpretation:** Blueprint Reading, Engineering Drawing Interpretation, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). * **Material Science:** Understanding of various metals and alloys (e.g., steel, aluminum, exotic alloys) and their grinding characteristics. * **Tooling & Abrasives:** Selection and application of grinding wheels, dressing tools, and coolants. * **Quality Control:** In-process inspection, final inspection, defect identification, adherence to quality standards. * **Machine Maintenance:** Basic setup, cleaning, lubrication, minor troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance. * **Safety Protocols:** Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage, machine guarding, hazard identification. * **Work Ethic:** Strong attention to detail, precision-oriented, reliable, and team-player mentality.
