We are seeking a highly motivated Metallurgy & Laser Welding Application Engineer to optimize, and validation of fiber laser welding processes for industrial applications(like EV battery terminal welding etc).
The candidate will be responsible for evaluating weld quality, developing welding procedures, conducting metallurgical analysis, Proving customer trials, proving welding part at customer end, and improving welding performance across a variety of materials including stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminium alloys, galvanized steel, copper alloys, and dissimilar metal combinations.
Key Responsibilities
Laser Welding Process Development
Develop and optimize fiber laser welding parameters.
Establish welding procedures for different material grades and thicknesses.
Conduct welding trials and process validation.
Improve weld penetration, strength, appearance, and productivity.
Support development of automated laser welding applications.
Metallurgical Analysis
Perform macro and microstructure examination of weld samples.
Analyze Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) characteristics.
Evaluate weld defects including:
o Porosity
o Cracks
o Undercut
o Lack of fusion
o Burn-through
o Distortion
Conduct root cause analysis of welding failures.
Material Evaluation
Study weldability of:
o Stainless steel
o Mild steel
o Galvanized steel
o Aluminum alloys
o Copper alloys
o Nickel alloys
Recommend suitable welding strategies and filler materials where applicable.
Quality Testing
Coordinate and evaluate:
o Tensile testing
o Bend testing
o Hardness testing
o Metallography
o Etching
o NDT inspection
Prepare welding qualification reports.
Customer Application Support
Support customer welding trials.
Demonstrate laser welding capabilities.
Assist customers in process optimization.
Troubleshoot welding-related issues at customer sites.
Documentation
Prepare:
o Welding process sheets
o Application reports
o Material compatibility reports
o Trial reports
o Technical presentations
